Ocean Exploration Trust Now Accepting Applications for High School Honors Research Program & Educators at Sea!
Applications are now available for educators and high school juniors/seniors who are interested in joining Dr. Robert Ballard and his Corps of Exploration at sea. Applications are due March 1, 2013 for our upcoming summer and fall expeditions. For more information, visit Ocean Exploration Trust’s website: http://oceanexplorationtrust.com/opportunities.htm
Educator at Sea Science Communications Fellowship
Educator at Sea fellowships are now available for the 2013 field season. Formal and informal educators from around the world are encouraged to apply. Educator at Sea positions entail 2-4 week periods working aboard E/V Nautilus and other oceanographic research vessels as communicators of the expedition, sharing discoveries with global audiences on shore. They further participate in interactive presentations with student groups and public audiences to engage people of all ages in scientific exploration. An equally important aspect of the program is bringing the expedition back home to local student populations and communities after our Educators have joined us at sea.
Honors Research Program
The Honors Research Program seeks rising high school seniors (junior year completed by summer of 2013) to participate in a seven-week summer program from July 6 through August 10, 2013. Participating high school students will work with scientists at the University of Rhode Island (URI) Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) to develop a research project that will culminate with each student joining an oceanographic research expedition aboard a research vessel such as the Exploration Vessel Nautilus or STS Bodrum. Students will learn how to plot, analyze, and interpret oceanographic data using computer science and engineering throughout the summer, and then join one of our expeditions at sea in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or Aegean Sea.
