Date of Webinar: January 30 2012, 8:00pm EST

Topic: Phylogenetic Trees

Description:  An intro to phylogeny how to read trees, why to teach phylogeny and examples of classroom activities.

Guest Expert Bio: Jennifer Collins started working for Deep Earth Academy in 2008.  She is charged with working on public events and providing teacher support and resources that highlight the exciting adventures of scientific ocean drilling and make use of the core data to study Earth events and history. Jen joined DEA after spending a number of years teaching middle school and high school science.  Besides melding young minds, she has: worked at the University of California Museum of Paleontology on projects such as Explorations Through Time, the Understanding Evolution website and the Understanding Science website; traveled in some really great places to do field research with biologists; written a number of lessons modeled after real science research; and worked on various projects aimed at engaging the public, educators, and students in science, including Year of Science efforts with the Coalition on the Public Understanding of Science.
