Room officials have specific roles. These roles include:
Rules Judges (151k PDF): must know all the Rules, ensure quiet during the game, and that the rules are consistently and correctly followed by everyone in the game room.
Moderators (94k PDF): must be able to read clearly, quickly and keep the competition running smoothly.
Science Judges (153k PDF): must have a technical background (generally a graduate degree) in marine sciences and be prepared to address challenges to content by participating students.
Timekeepers (126k PDF): must be able to stay focused on time, not the game, know the rules that apply, and work a stop watch and digital clock (at the same time).
Scorekeepers (116k PDF): not for the arithmetically challenged!
In addition to the volunteers in the competition rooms, the NOSB also needs individuals to help in staffing Ocean Bowl Central, help with set up and registration. For a general look at volunteer positions and competition structure, see the Volunteer Handout (65k PDF).
