Supporting NOSB

The National Ocean Sciences Bowl® (NOSB) inspires students to enter STEM fields and pursue careers in the marine sciences by actively engaging them in the sciences and directly linking what they are learning to the ocean – a topic that is awe inspiring and full of opportunities for exploration.

The success of NOSB has been carefully assessed through a comprehensive evaluation program. Through a Longitudinal Study, external evaluators are following NOSB alumni through college and now into the workforce, tracking their college course choices and ultimately where they decide to work. The results have been exciting, and show the impact the program is having on students all across the U.S. To learn more about NOSB’s longitudinal study, take a moment to review our past reports.

This success, however, has not been achieved single-handedly. It has been due to a strong network. NOSB values strong partnerships with education organizations, corporations and individuals that share our goal, to prepare our Nation’s future workforce for success in STEM careers. Through this broad community that involves high school teachers and community organizations to federal agencies and international corporations, we are able to reach a larger number and more diverse group of students.

The NOSB is a national program. In 2013, 33 states plus the District of Columbia participated in 25 regional bowls.
